Cynthia Diane Solomon Holmes was born September 1, 1957
to Joseph (who preceeded her in death) and Helen Solomon in Houston,
Texas. At a very young age she confessed her faith in Christ at Fourth
Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized. Cynthia attended J. Will
Jones and Alcott Elementary, Hartman Jr. High School and graduated from
Jesse H. Jones High School. The mother of two daughters, she was united
in holy matrimony to Ernest Holmes on February 14, 1987. Cynthia worked
in various customer service roles and was most recently employed with
Centerpoint Energy. She developed a gift and passion for gospel music
and playing the piano. She was a faithful member of Rock of Salvation
Missionary Baptist Church for more than 15 years. She loved her church
dearly and served as Church Secretary, Choir Director, Sunday School
Teacher and President of the Mission Department.
In
the late fall of 2009, Cynthia developed a persistent cough, which
resulted in various doctor office visits. With no official diagnosis
given and little help from prescribed medications, doctors ordered a
chest X-ray and CT Scan. Both revealed "a spot". After such, a biopsy
was ordered and confirmed suspicions of a malignancy. On April 8, 2010,
Cynthia was diagnosed with a rare sarcoma cancer, called Leiomyosarcoma.
There were multiple malignancies near and on her right lung. Due to the
inoperable state she was in, the only options for treatment were
chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
This
treacherous disease mestasized or grew larger and appeared in multiple
areas of Cynthia's body. With her strength already weakening,
chemotherapy was too aggressive for her state and the treatment option
was radiation therapy. After a short battle with this disease, Cynthia
succumbed to it the evening of Tuesday, July 13, 2010.
Lives
have been forever altered by anyone who knew her and to know her was to
love her. She had a contagious smile and wonderful, hearty laugh that
lit up any room she entered. She was the absolute best mother any
daughter could ask for; the best sister, daughter and grandmother. She
adored her grandchildren, Christian, Christopher and Erica; and loved
spending time with them.
Thank you all for your love and support. God Bless each and everyone of you.
